How is stop-loss calculated?

The result is calculated using the following formula:

Long SL = Entry − (Max Loss / Quantity) Short SL = Entry + (Max Loss / Quantity)

  • Max Loss Amount = Balance × Risk% (or the flat amount)
  • Stop Distance = Max Loss Amount / Quantity
  • Stop Distance % = Stop Distance / Entry × 100
  • Then size the ticket on the Position Size Calculator and check R:R.

Example Calculation

Long with ₹1,00,000, 1% risk, quantity 1:

  1. 1. Max loss = ₹1,000
  2. 2. Entry ₹50,000 → stop distance = ₹1,000 / 1 = ₹1,000
  3. 3. Stop-loss price = ₹50,000 − ₹1,000 = ₹49,000
  4. 4. Stop distance % = 2%

If quantity is 2 coins, the same ₹1,000 risk sits only ₹500 away — often too tight.

Decide the rupee amount you can lose (balance × risk%), divide by the coins you will trade, and subtract that distance from a long entry (add it on a short). That is the highest (or lowest) price that still respects the budget. Structure still has to make sense — a mathematically valid stop in the middle of a range will still get run.
