How is DCA calculated?
The result is calculated using the following formula:
Average Buy = Total Invested / Total Units P&L = Total Units × Current Price − Total Invested
- Units_t = Investment / Price_t for each interval
- Total Units = Σ Units_t; Total Invested = Investment × Number of intervals
- ROI% = P&L / Total Invested × 100
- If you enter fewer prices than intervals, the last price is reused
- For yield on idle coins see the Compound Interest Calculator. For a single round-trip use the Profit Calculator.
Example Calculation
Three ₹1,000 buys at 100, 80, and 50, marked at 90:
- 1. Units = 10 + 12.5 + 20 = 42.5
- 2. Total invested = ₹3,000 → average buy ≈ ₹70.59
- 3. Current value = 42.5 × 90 = ₹3,825
- 4. Net P&L = ₹825 → ROI ≈ 27.5%
Picking a coin fills every row with Binance spot LTP so a flat schedule starts at zero P&L until you edit history.
Frequently Asked Questions
View all →DCA is buying a fixed amount on a schedule (daily, weekly, monthly) regardless of the print. You accumulate more units when price is lower and fewer when it is higher, so the average buy sits between the highs and lows of the window — not at a single heroic entry.
A lump sum that happens to catch a local bottom beats DCA on paper. Most traders do not time that print. DCA trades a worse average for fewer all-in disasters and a process you can automate. Neither method guarantees profit if the asset trends down for years.
Weekly is a practical default: enough samples to smooth weekly noise, few enough to keep on-chain or exchange fees sane. Daily helps only if fees are tiny relative to the clip. Monthly is fine for salary-funded buys. The math on this page does not care about the label — only the prices you actually paid.
No. If the current price is below your average buy, the book is red even after perfect discipline. DCA reduces the odds of one catastrophic entry; it does not create demand for the coin. Use it as a process, then mark-to-market honestly.
